Congratulations to Yan Jie (Jessica) – First CODEX PhD Completion!

In her research, titled #Instafood: a speculative design exploration of the eating experience, Dr Yan explores the future of food at the intersection of Food Design, Speculative Design, and digital fabrication. It introduces InstaFood, a concept that imagines how personalised visual cues could shape healthier and more engaging eating experiences.
The study focuses on three areas:
Understanding Visual Influence – Research shows that how food looks affects how we perceive taste, portion size, and overall experience.
Visual Analysis of Eating Habits – Using food images from social media, the project examines everyday visual food patterns and presentation styles.
Personalised Production – Digital fabrication is used to create customised foods and containers tailored to individual preferences.
InstaFood expands the idea of future food beyond nutrition, exploring how technology can reshape the way we produce, present, and experience what we eat.
